* Make the default PID file compile-time settable (#12485)zeripath2020-08-151-2/+3

An alternative was offered that we could make the PID file compile/link time settable. This PR does this, and changes the name of the setting from CustomPID to simply PIDFile. It also updates the from-source docs to show how to change the compiler settings to do this. Whenever a `time.Timer` is `Stop`ped its channel must be cleared using a `select` if the result of the `Stop()` is `false`. Unfortunately in `Workerpool` these were checked the wrong way round. However, there were a few other places that were not being checked.
