Instead of passing on the start point as is to CreateBranchCommand, the resolved ObjectId was used. Given this, CreateBranchCommand did not set up tracking. This also fixes CreateBranchCommand with setStartPoint(null) to use HEAD (instead of NPEing), as documented in the Javadoc.
